Yet, one of Facebook’s main selling points is to builds closer ties among friends and colleagues. While people are enjoying and connecting through Facebook, some of the people might not realize that Facebook may brings opposite effects towards its users.

Facebook may bring negative effect towards its users because there might be a gap between a people and the other person connected in it. Like other social networks, relationship between people in virtual life may be perfect, cordial and beautiful. But will the relationship in real life be perfect and cordial like in virtual life? Some of the people maybe can retain the relation in both virtual and real life but most of us couldn’t achieve it. Besides, Facebook connecting people only by updates and pictures by the users to the other users. What if a person who have close friends and not seeing her friends for a long time? Seeing your long lost friend in person and expressing your feeling in words are two different circumstances.

Other than that, one’s privacy after having a Facebook account may change. Facebook can be a suitable site to stalk or hack other users. A January 2009 Complete.com study stated that Entertainment Weekly, an American magazine included the site on Facebook’s purpose for some people are to stalk their exes, wishes their friends or colleagues’ birthdays and publicize their problems or activities to the other users. Thus, the users tend to have a common trust in others and in institutions as some of their friend in Facebook could be fakes and fraud.

In conclusion, social network like Facebook may have many negative effects towards the users but for people who manage to use Facebook wisely, they will not having problem to connecting in it.

The Degree of Happiness-Russell B

A British philosopher and Nobel laureate, Betrand Russell wrote his opinion on happiness in his book ‘The Conquest of Happiness’. Based on an excerpt (The Degree of Happiness) from his book, happiness can be differentiated into two sorts which are open to any human being and only to those who are read or write.

Happiness can be defined as a state of contentment, joy and good fortune. Also, happiness refers to the good emotion and mood of a person. In his book, Russell told us about his childhood memory regarding a man who bursting with happiness when he, with an enormous heights and incredible strength got a vote for parliament in 1885 although that man cannot read and write. Also, Russell told us about his gardener who felt happy by eliminates rabbits that destroy his garden. The gardener considers the rabbits as ferocious, destroyer and his mortal enemies.

Russell however, thought that the happiness of general, science and art people can be different based on their work performances, social relationships and people perceptions towards their works.

Some people may experience happiness and some unfortunately not realize they had experience it. General people gain happiness from many kind of aspects or situations such as being healthy, rich, success in their careers or lived with their loved ones like spouse, children, parents and friends. This happiness will remain depending on how people pleasure and treasure it.

The science people are considered as high educated people with satisfaction gained from their works and researches. They have the ability to invent something for the mankind’s benefits, gain trust and appear important not only for themselves but also people around them even though the people cannot understand their works.

In contrast, an artist or a poet may be criticized if their arts and literatures were bad or difficult to understand thus made them being in painful situation of not being appreciated by others. This is because poems, arts or pictures may have their own creativity, semantics and values which some people cannot understand.

In conclusion, human may experience different kind of happiness based on how they feel it. But, by the end it is the same feeling of happiness everyone will receive.

  • If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years- Bertrand Russell
